VOTW

Good Morning Friends!

How are you with scripture memory?
Do you have a wealth of knowledge racked up from over the years?
Is scripture something you use to relate to everyday occurrences?
Do you often reference a certain verse depending on the topic that pops up?
Are you studying scripture daily and making the effort to let it sink into memory?

"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Bible is our 'guidebook' in life. There has never been a time in my life where a circumstance arose and I wasn't able to reference scripture to support it. I have been reading, referencing, and studying the Bible for over half of my existing life, and the cool thing is that there is ALWAYS something new! There is also so much history and memories for me jam-packed in my Bible.

Over my years as a believer, I have purchased and been gifted many different copies of the Bible-ALL of which I LOVE and use each one still. But I have one in particular that I cherish and enjoy the most. This copy is small in size, but it is filled with more history and memories from some of the toughest and greatest times in my life to date. As you already know about me, I'm a list-maker and note-taker. This particular Bible is full of dates, highlights, sticky notes, underlining, and notes that truly makes my heart smile at the sight and use of it. It carried me through nursing school, relationships, new life and death, leadership conferences, Journey weekends, moving into adulthood, career choices, marriage vows, my children's births, miscarriage and loss, tough decisions, intense study, serving my husband, missions and visions...you catch my drift, right?

"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." 1 Peter 3: 15

Scripture memory is important. It is necessary. It is encouraging and powerful. When life knocks you down and you have a verse come into mind for encouragement, it is much easier to pick yourself back up and keep trucking. Our God is powerful and faithful and just. The Bible is our backbone in life and our support to withstand all the negativity, fear, and war we are living in today.

I am a visual learner. I must see it with my own eyes and touch it with my hands to even begin to grasp and hold something in my memory forever. One thing I enjoy doing is writing scripture on notecards and post it notes. I carry these in my pockets, in my car, on my fridge, on my bathroom mirror, anywhere really. I have notebooks everywhere I go- my car, my purse, my gym bag, most rooms and drawers in my house... Basically, anytime I hear, see, or think of a scripture, I jot it down to review later. Fill your hearts and minds with POSITIVE things!

Where to Start:
1) OPEN YOUR BIBLE! I'm a visual and tactile learner so I like my printed Bible. However, the Bible app is available and this makes it so easy to reference a scripture or read the Bible ANYWHERE you are! Start with 5 minutes per day. See where this takes you =)
2) Devotional books- Step foot into Lifeway or Family Christian bookstore and you will find aisles on aisles of pre-printed, guided devotional scripture time. You can always reference a friend for advice on which ones they've read as well.
3) Pastors, Authors, and Inspirational Speakers Email List- Search your favorite author or leader on Google and you will likely find an email list you can subscribe to. There are several that I follow and receive daily emails to that are guided readings and topics to learn about.
4) VOTW- Verse of the Week! Choose one scripture each week and in your daily study write it down! By the end of that week, after writing it 6-7 times, you should have it committed to memory =)

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Psalm 119:105

Looking forward to hearing how this goes for y'all!

always learning,
Reagan
